Since 2009, the Faculty of Journalism organizes the annual International Media Readings in Moscow “Mass Media and Communications”, also known as the Moscow Readings conference. The event takes place in October / November each year. At the moment, Moscow Readings conference is the biggest international academic conference organized and hosted by the Faculty of Journalism, Lomonosov Moscow State University. In previous years, it was co-organized jointly with European Media Management Association (2011), International Media Management Academic Association (2015), European Journalism Training Association (2017), and International Association for Media and Communication Research (2019, 2020, 2021). In 2023 and 2024, it was organized jointly with the Union of Journalism Education of Chinese and Russian Universities and with the Association of Journalists of Russia and Africa, as well as supported by the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation and the National Association of Mass Media Researchers (NAMMI).
Each year the conference brings media scholars, researchers, lecturers and PhD students from diverse Russian and international institutions to Moscow. In 2024, Moscow Readings conference was themed around the digital media systems. The conference brought together over 100 media researchers from around the world, including China, India, Sweden, South Africa, Canada, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Armenia, Vietnam, and etc.
The conference normally includes two plenary sessions (in 2024 featuring Profs. Shi-xu, Abiodun Salawu, Padma Rani, Elena Vartanova), thematic sessions and round table discussions. The conference runs for two days (Thursday and Friday). The main working language is English, although we also organize a number of sessions in Russian too. Plenary sessions are in English with simultaneous translation into Russian.
